5 Tips for Staying on Track With Your Weight Loss

By Ashley Purnell

Weight loss isn’t for those will a lack of willpower. It takes real commitment to changing your bad habits and forming new, healthier ones as well as to not give into temptations. Sure, you could indulge and have a cheat day where you stuff your face with every sugary substance you can find, however, you would then be back at square one and left with the guilt and shame. TLS stands for Transitions Lifestyle Solutions because we believe in lifestyles, not dieting. At first, it can be challenging to find that balance but once it really becomes a complete lifestyle for you, you will never look back. Until that time, try these tips for staying on track to a healthier you.

  1. Avoid putting yourself in tempting situations, or plan ahead for them. If you know you’re going to a child’s birthday party you also know there will be a tempting cake there as well. Bring a TLS approved snack or your favorite fruits instead. Remember, it’s about changing your lifestyle, not just your weight.
  2. Join a group exercise class and make friends with the regulars. Seeing them each class will inspire you to attend even when you feel like skipping.
  3. Keep track of your progress. If you’re looking to lose a certain number of pounds, weigh yourself either every morning or weekly and write the number down. Keep in mind, this is not to discourage you but to celebrate every little success.
  4. Set aside a day and time once a week to plan out and shop for meals and snacks for the upcoming week. This will help avoid on-the-go temptations.
  5. Make sure you get at least seven hours of sleep each night. Being tired makes for skipped workouts and extra snacking.
